Remembering Ember
Ember was a mare of striking beauty and quiet presence.
Her satin-white coat seemed to glow, and her large, liquid eyes held both gentleness and depth.
Though life had not always been kind to her, she carried herself with calm assurance and met the world with a sweetness and curiosity that never wavered.
When Ember came to me through a Texas kill pen rescue group in late 2021, she was thin, fearful, and subdued.
The months that followed were about giving her space and safety — to heal, to trust, and to learn that she was finally home.
I had no idea then if she would ever carry a foal, but what she gave to Day Arabians shifted the trajectory and future of the program.
Ember was the true foundation of what became the modern-day Day Arabians breeding program. She was the first mare to conceive and carry a foal here, quickly making her imprint on my small but budding program.
In 2023, she delivered Annie — Promise Me Platinum — a filly who carried Ember’s beauty and presence into the show ring.
Two years later, Ember gave me a colt, Kkairo DA, but her life was lost in his delivery.
Losing her was devastating, yet through Annie and Kkairo, Ember’s spirit lives on.
When Ember passed in March, and my mom just two months later, I didn’t know how I would find the strength to step into any show ring ever again.
Then came the call that Annie was ready.
It was our first Regional together, and I held onto the thought that maybe this was a way to honor them both.
What I expected to be a small show turned out to draw more than 450 horses across multiple divisions— one of the largest Regionals of 2025.
Leading Annie toward the gate, I felt the weight of loss but also the power of connection — like Ember and my mom were right there with us.
When Annie entered the arena, she lit it up, and the judges couldn’t look away.
She was named Regional Champion that day, but the truest victory was the feeling of running beside her — carrying both Ember’s spirit and my mom’s memory into that ring.
Ember’s legacy is more than the foals she gave us.
She was the thread that wove countless conversations between my mom and me — sparking joy, laughter, and dreams for the future.
She healed us as much as we healed her.
I will always miss her satin-white beauty and gentle, curious soul —
but most of all, I will remember how she brought us together.
Through Annie and Kkairo, Ember’s story continues —
and with it, the heart of Day Arabians.
